In all the excitement about Chelsea’s January spending – and potential spending – things are being lost in the background.
One significant piece of news today – and one that could be the first of several similar pieces of news – is that Jude Soonsup-Bell is going to leave the club on a free transfer. He will join Tottenham in the summer when his Chelsea contract expires.
Soonsup-Bell is a nice talent who’s had a great time in the academy and is now ready to make an impact in senior football. It’s a pity to lose him now.
This can’t all be tied to the massive spending this year – the rumours have been around for a while now – but any hope that the club had in terms of persuading these young players to stay and fight for a place in the squad must surely have been crushed by the vast outlay on new faces throughout the squad.
