Chelsea ‘antagonised’ Benfica with attempted deal to sign Enzo Fernandez

Chelsea have reportedly annoyed Benfica with their antics when trying to sign midfielder Enzo Fernandez from them this month.

It’s been a saga that has continued to simmer away, and it’s been a very frustrating one for all involved. We have been seeing various reports all through this month, and it’s still ongoing now.

Could Frank Lampard return to Chelsea in a new role?

Will Chelsea actually sign Enzo?

Well, it looks like they are going to have to pull something very special out of that hat to now make that happen in these final days of this window at least. And if they wait until the summer, then they will surely be facing a lot more competition.

Either way, they have ‘antagonised’ Benfica during these negotiations, according to a report from The Times yesterday.

They’ve done this by informally offering to meet Benfica’s £106 million asking price for Fernández in December, only to attempt to negotiate that fee down in January.
