Chelsea and big target agree to leave possible transfer for the summer

Top French football insider Santi Aouna is reporting that Marcus Thuram will be staying at Borussia Monchengladbach until the summer, and Chelsea’s attempts to sign him this January have been shelved.

The versatile attacker really impressed at the World Cup, and the fact he’s in the 6 months of his contract made him a cheap and appealing deal. The links to Chelsea were strong, and and one stage it looked like he might be persuaded to come here this month.

In the end however, he’s staying put, and Chelsea have moved on.

It always sounded like this was a big possibility. Thuram’s plan was always to wait until the summer, when he is a free agent and will have his pick of many clubs and some big offers.

Maybe he would have shelved that plan had Chelsea come hard for him this January, but in the end once we had two other targets signed in similar positions our need was greatly reduced, and it’s no surprise to see this one die away – at least for now.
