Raheem Sterling will return to Qatar to rejoin England – but may not get another minute

The FA have just confirmed, in a message reposted on the Chelsea official website, that Raheem Sterling will be returning to Qatar tomorrow.

The winger had flown back last week at short notice to deal with a “family matter,” but that has now apparently been resolved, and Sterling will likely already be on his way back out to England’s hotel.

The media reports were that there had been a break in at Sterling’s home near Chelsea’s training ground, with conflicting stories about whether his family were in the house at the time. Either way it’s a traumatic experience, and Sterling needed to be there to deal with it.

England scored freely against Senegal without Sterling, and he will now face a battle to win his place back. The Quarter Final against France would likely come too soon for him anyway given he won’t be training tomorrow.

The real question is whether England will have another game to play after that…
