Raheem Sterling unavailable for England game due to family matter

With the teams for England’s World Cup second round match against Senegal still not announced, major news is filtering out from Qatar.

Journalists have been informed that Raheem Sterling will not be playing tonight as he’s dealing with a family matter.

Sterling was rested for the third group game, and it wasn’t clear if he would start tonight anyway given how well his replacement Phil Foden did in that game against Wales. Fellow Chelsea man Mason Mount’s place is also under question after he was left out of that game too – but we will have to wait until 6pm to find out his fate.

Ben White also left the England camp in recent days due to a private matter – although it sounds like Sterling will be returning, unlike the Arsenal defender who has effectively withdrawn for the duration of the tournament.

Let’s hope everything is OK for Raheem, and that the team get the job done without him.
