Joao Felix to leave Atletico – and Chelsea are on the shortlist

It seems almost certain now that Joao Felix will leave Atletico Madrid, either in January or next summer.

The Spanish club have tried everything to make it work between Felix and Diego Simeone, but after several years it shows no signs of improving, and they’re clearly backing the manager over the player as their future. Atleti’s CEO Gil Marin has admitted they’re considering selling him.

That means transfer links – and Chelsea are certainly among the Portugal star’s most likely destinations.

We don’t know of any specific interest – but it all adds up. The Blues need exciting attacking talent, and Felix is one of few top level talents likely to be on the market.

We don’t know how he would fit in exactly, but there are no shortage of very excited Blues fans out there who would love to see us try. As always, it will depend on the price…

  1. So, “the Blues need exciting attacking talent,” therefore, we should just buy Felix? SuperFrank, you go on to say that we have no clue how (or if) he would fit the system or squad, yet you seem to be advocating just blindly pulling the trigger (cuz he looks shiny in the window?). Hmmm [scratches his head]. Yes, seems like a brilliant approach to the transfer market, and a virtual guarantee to provide supporters with yet another disappointment that they’ll demand the club sell at a loss inside of 18 months, lol!

Instead of treating the Chelsea transfer budget like it’s all Monopoly money, how about actually analyzing whether Felix (i.e., his attributes as a player) makes sense at the club before suggesting we buy him? I’ve only watched him a handful of times in Champions League matches and (as opposed to, say, the power/pace of Leao, who would be an incredible addition to the squad), I just don’t quite see how Felix would be a dramatic upgrade.
