Graham Potter gives first update on 4 injured players

The World Cup is in full swing, but we’re also gearing up to see Chelsea return to action. The Blues are out on a training camp in Abu Dhabi, and today we got our first updates on the fitness of several injured players from Graham Potter.

It had been noted that a full four of his injured stars had made the trip out and were working with the team in training to some degree, but they each are in a different stage of recovery, so it was important to get a road map for each of them.

First up were defenders Reece James and Wesley Fofana, who both sound like they’re on course to return in our next game.

“Reece is not quite fully training but he’s integrating into training along with Wesley,’ he said. ‘Wesley is a little bit further behind but not too far,” the Chelsea Official website quoted him as saying.

The news wasn’t quite as good when it came to Ben Chilwell, but it still sounds like he’s making progress:

“Ben has come back from his individual work in Dubai and he’s now working closer with the guys but still not team training,’ updated Potter on our number 21, who was in the gym with his team-mates earlier in the week.”

Finally there’s N’Golo Kante, who has been out for so long that we’re starting to forget he’s even an option.

“N’Golo is a little bit further away but again he’s progressing well,” added the head coach.

So it’s good news all round really, and 2 of the 4 sound like they will join in the main group training as soon as this week. We expect Chilly back by the end of January, and with Kante – at this stage, we just treasure every game we have left with him.
