Raheem Sterling’s sudden departure from the England camp last week raised a lot of eyebrows, and nobody was expecting it to be for any good reason.

Gareth Southgate didn’t explain what the issue was exactly, out of respect for Sterling’s privacy. This was the right thing to do of course, but inevitably just leads to people speculating about all sorts of things.

As it turns out it was the horrible (and horribly common among footballers) home invasion. Sterling’s London home was broken in to while his family were there, and he’s now flown back to deal with the aftermath.

The good news is that two people have already been arrested, according to reports on ESPN today. They quote Surrey police in saying that “two men” were in custody after a dog unit and a helicopter unit were dispatched to find them following the burglary.

Let’s hope they’re the guilty party.
