Why Denis Zakaria is in line for another start tonight

Denis Zakaria made his long-awaited first appearance as a Chelsea player last week as he burst onto the scene with an excellent showing against Dinamo Zagreb – capped with goal.

There was some (fairly unrealistic) chatter about him starting at the weekend, which was soon proved to be incorrect. But now, after a defeat to Arsenal and with another midweek game to play, it feels likely we see him again.

We already know from Graham Potter’s press conference yesterday that Jorginho has a mild foot injury – if it was enough to mention it is probably enough to keep him out of the team. Mateo Kovacic is also being handled with care as he managed an injury of his own.

We always thought it was unrealistic to see Zakaria last weekend – but we think it’s very likely we see him tonight. If he makes as good an impression as he did in the Zagreb game, he will be pushing hard for a league start too.
