“Regular dialogue” – Graham Potter thinking about “what we can do to improve”

The January transfer window is now right around the corner as we head into the World Cup.

When this competition finishes at the end of December, we will be turning our attentions back to domestic football and the transfer window to accompany its return.

Sources: Chelsea working towards using a back four once targets are signed!

Chelsea are expected to be one of the busier clubs, with a number of new targets in mind to come in and improve certain areas in the squad. We know the ambition of the new owners, and we know that Graham Potter could do with a few of his own picks added to the current setup.

Potter has been speaking about improving the team and says that is something he is having ‘regular dialogue’ with new owner Todd Boehly about personally, which is of course, great to hear.

Previous owner Roman Abramovich was never as hands on as that and managers always had to use middlemen. But it seems like Potter is fully involved and has communication access to the owners very clear.

As reported by The Daily Express, Potter said:

“I think there is more to come from the team we have and the group we have. We’ve had some key players out: [N’Golo] Kante, [Ben] Chilwell, [Reece] James, [Wesley] Fofana. They are key players and a couple of them are replacing key ones who left in the summer.

“[Myself and Boehly] have a regular dialogue anyway. Sometimes you need to reflect, think and analyse. Absolutely, [in January], we need to think about what’s happened and what we can do to improve.”

  1. What I find strange is the last three managers have played the same tactics, all three started well and ended up playing sideways and back. Regardless of selection the team seems to have no set play of how to get to the goal. Possession stats high due to the ball spending more time in our own half with our sideways & back passing, lack of forward running. When have/had players of great pace but never rarely play through balls, even on the break we will stop then play backwards it’s almost like the team intentionally does not want to score.
