Raheem Sterling’s sparkling words on brilliant Bellingham

Chelsea have a few players in the England squad – but there’s another one they would dearly love to add.

Jude Bellingham has long looked like he was going to be the Three Lions breakout star of this tournament, and so it’s proved so far. On the back of yet another step up in quality with Borussia Dortmund this season, he’s gone to Qatar, started the first group game and then scored England’s first goal of the tournament.

It’s the the kind of impact we had expected, but it’s still impressive to see the ease with which he’s stepped up. Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling, one of England’s most experienced players, and one who knows all about making a big impact as a teenager, spoke in glowing terms about his teammate.

“He’s a fantastic player. He’s one that we’ve just got to let keep doing his thing and enjoying his football and not putting pressure on him, I think he’ll get to the very top, but we’ve just got to be patient and let him flow, and as you see with club football and now internationally, he’s doing really well,” Sterling said in quotes picked up by Football.London.

“I do think he’s going to play a vital part in this [England] team, and as you saw the other day how comfortable he is in possession. How confident he is and the maturity as well, I think that’s something that surprises a lot of people about him, his maturity on and off the field.”

Let’s hope the two are getting on well off the field – maybe Raheem can persuade Jude to come to Chelsea this summer.
