Mason Mount wants more money than Reece James according to latest contract rumours

Mason Mount’s contract situation is gradually developing into one of the biggest stories at Chelsea.

The midfielder still has 18 months to run, but that means that we’ve reached the critical period for renegotiating.

The previous priority was Reece James, who earlier this season signed a deal worth £250,000 a week.

It’s a huge relief for the club to have that done, but immediately their attentions must turn to Mount. Losing him would be almost as much of a blow.

The rumours in the Sun today are that talks aren’t progressing because Mount wants parity with his England teammate Raheem Sterling, who arrived this summer on a £300,000 a week deal.

That would make Mount better paid that his old friend James, of course. On this season’s evidence, that would be unjust. We’re still very confident this deal happens – he wants to stay and we want to keep him – but it’s getting hairy, there’s no doubting that.

  1. 300k for Mason Mount is laughable. Does he imagine that a more talented player can’t be found for under that?! And no way he deserves more than Reece who is, quite arguably, one-of-a-kind in the world right now at his position.

I never fault a player for trying to get as much as he can (while he can), but Chelsea are fools if they grant a player of very good, but not world class, talent that kind of wage.
