Leon Bailey transfer to Chelsea suggested 5 years after first links

A few years ago Leon Bailey was a top emerging talent tearing it up at Genk, and Chelsea were being strongly linked with him regularly.

In the end Bailey got no offer from the Blues, and moved to Germany instead to play for Bayer Leverkusen.

He did well there too, but fell off the radar of the top clubs,  and in summer 2021 he moved to Aston Villa.

After a pretty mediocre first year in the Premier League, he’s looking a lot better this time around, and the rumours have started up again.

The Sun today report that the winger is being considered as a potential January option to join Graham Potter’s attack.

A Jamaica international, he’s apparently good friends with Jamaica-born Raheem Sterling.

We certainly need another option to join Sterling in our attack, which looks short of quality. But is Bailey the man? We might need to see more than a few good months before we’re convinced.

  1. This sounds like a bad joke. What kind of mediocrity are we aspiring to if Leon Bailey is being considered (apparently as a replacement to Pulisic)? If the likes of Ziyech and/or Pulisic are to be replaced then the incoming player(s) ought to at least be a clear upgrade and Leon Bailey definitely does not fit that bill.
