“It’s embarrassing from a Chelsea point of view” – Alan Shearer analysis Arsenal goal

‘Embarrassing’ was the appropriate word used by football legend turned pundit Alan Shearer after Chelsea lost 1-0 to Arsenal at Stamford Bridge yesterday.

It wasn’t just about the defeat really, it was the manner of the defeat and the overall poor performance from Chelsea, which has followed up more poor performances and poor results in the last handful of games, putting a real sour feel around the club right now.

Revealed: Chelsea players and staff angry reactions in the dressing room after Arsenal defeat!

Alan Shearer as always has been analysing the game afterward on Match of The Day, and The Metro have picked up his comments this morning.

Shearer has highlighted Arsenal’s goal, which was from a corner in the second half. The former England striker was amazed that not one Chelsea defender or the goalkeeper even tried to defend or attack the cross, giving Arsenal basically the freedom of Stamford Bridge to get the ball over the line.

There were many more problems than just the goal we conceded, but Shearer is spot on here. He says: “It’s embarrassing from a Chelsea point of view. So many players could have cleared it, whether it’s [Kai] Havertz or [Thiago] Silva. The keeper [Edouard Mendy] isn’t given a chance. It wasn’t even a great ball in.

“Look at Cucurella in there with Xhaka. He doesn’t move at all. He just holds Xhaka, there’s nothing at all from him!”
