“Incredible” Ziyech hailed by new coach – but it only makes Chelsea showings more disappointing

Hakim Ziyech was brilliant as Morocco turned their World Cup campaign around with a stunning 2-0 win over Belgium.

The attacking midfielder had retired from international duty under Vahid Halilodzic, but with new man Walid Regragui in charge he’s been restored to the first team, and today he showed just what he can do.

Ziyech got two assists and was the key man as the Belgians were beaten, and after the game Regragui referred to his predecessor’s issues with the country’s big talent.

The Morocco coach called Ziyech’s showing “incredible.”

“A lot of people talk about him as a difficult guy to manage but what I see is that, when you give him love and confidence, he will die for you. It is what I give him and he returns my confidence.”

Chelsea fans will be delighted to see him play well, even if only for the way it might increase interest in his services for the future. But it’s also disappointing in a way to see him play in such a motivated way, serving to highlight how apathetic he’s been while wearing Blue in the last year.
