Familiar Kai Havertz problems start to haunt Germany as well as Chelsea

Kai Havertz’ talents were clear for a long time before he came to Chelsea – but in two and a half years at the club, we’ve rarely been able to see them.

The forward has been dropped multiple times with little complaints from the fans, and three managers have now tried to work out a way of getting the best out of him. None have managed it on a consistent basis.

Often the cry has been to look to Germany, where Havertz has remained an important part of the team throughout that time.

But the reality is that those good performances and goals are often coming against weaker opposition. And when we saw him play against Japan in the shock defeat, we saw a lot of the same problems we saw with Chelsea.

A talented player with amazing skills, but one who is drifting all over the pitch not affecting the game enough and not looking like he’s in position to hurt the opposition consistently.
