Chelsea’s reliable academy defender signs “long term” extension

Trevoh Chalobah has signed a new contract at Chelsea today, securing his long term future at the club.

The defender broke into the team in preseason last year, taking advantage of some gaps in the squad after the summer break to show Thomas Tuchel what he could do.

After impressing he was kept back from the loans he was expected to have, and he ended up being an important squad player for the team.

A host of summer arrivals looked set to push him down the pecking order this season, but instead injuries have made him more important than ever, and there are few players in the squad who have played as much as the 23 year old in this campaign.

He now has 43 appearances for his boyhood club – more than he could have dreamed of 18 months ago.

Chelsea announced a “long term” deal on their website, without disclosing how many years the extension is for.

Chalobah’s statement thanked God and his family.
