Antonio Rudiger names Chelsea centre back among 5 best of this generation

Antonio Rudiger has just done a really interesting interview with the Guardian where he talked about his time at Chelsea and the World Cup ahead.

His time in London is looked back on fondly, and a particular joy for Rudiger seems to have been playing alongside Thiago Silva. The two formed a brilliant partnership in a back 3, with each complementing each other’s strengths and weaknesses perfectly. We only got to see it for two years, but it was a joy, especially with Thomas Tuchel coaching.

Rudiger named the Brazilian in a group of 5 centre backs who Rudiger claimed were the best in the world of this generation.

“These are the best centre backs,” he said of Silva, Pepe and Sergio Ramos.

“Also Giorgio Chiellini and Leo Bonucci.”

We were happy enough to have Silva for just one year, the fact he’s now in his third season here is a real treat for Chelsea fans.

What a shame he couldn’t continue his linkup with Rudiger for longer. The two could yet face each other in Qatar.
