RB Leipzig technical director steps down with move to Chelsea seemingly close

After a quiet week, Chelsea’s search for footballer personnel to work upstairs in the new club structure kicked back into gear today.

The news isn’t coming from Stamford Bridge though – it’s coming from Leipzig, where the German club have just announced that their technical director Christopher Vivell was “dismissed” because of contrasting views with the club.

Nobody is under any illusions about what this means, given that there have been multiple reports of Chelsea’s interst in hiring somebody in that role, and new owner Todd Boehly’s open admiration for the Red Bull model.

Ben Jacobs – who is well connected with Boehly and the rest of the ownership group – followed up with more news. He said that Chelsea had had “multiple talks” with Vivell, who was “very impressed” with the project that Clearlake are putting together.

Jacobs does however point out that neither Leipzig nor Chelsea have openly said anything about an impending move.
