Mateo Kovacic still looking for top form after summer injuries

Mateo Kovacic has been a key player for Chelsea before, and will be again.

But at the moment, it’s fair to say he’s not in his best form.

The midfielder still looks very off the pace, and he simply hasn’t shown his true level for extended periods this season. The injury that affected his preseason looks to still be having an effect, almost ten games in to the season.

He’s only working his way back now, but both he and his new coach will be hoping for a lot more from the Croatian in the future. If we continue playing this 433 system, there should always be a spot for Kova, and he should really shine, once he’s up to speed.

He brings creativity and invention to the middle of the park which neither Kante nor Jorginho do, and on days like yesterday where he’s not playing or not playing well, we really lack that.
