Graham Potter’s formation choice a key moment in Chelsea’s season

Chelsea played a back four in Graham Potter’s second game in charge, and tomorrow night we are very curious to see whether that’s repeated, or whether we will see a regular oscillation between a 3 and a 4 depending on who we are playing against.

We were told from the moment that Potter was linked with a move to us that he was likely to be extremely fluid with his choices, but even so, it’s a significant moment for our squad building if he goes one way or another.

We invested heavily in central defenders this summer in preparation for a year of Thomas Tuchel’s back 3, it would seem crazy to throw that in the bin now.

It’s also not a system that suits our senior centre back, Thiago Silva, as much as some others.

We can’t judge everything on the team that comes out tomorrow night, but it will be a strong indicator either way.
