Cesar Azpilicueta was back in action last night for Chelsea as he rumbles towards a decade of loyal service to the club.
Just like last season, and the season before that, this felt like the campaign that Azpi would finally be phased out.
But his incredible versatility and durability means that the moment there are injuries anywhere, he finds himself back in the side. This season he will add another 30 or so appearances to his incredible total.
His levels aren’t what they used to be, but he still stands up to be counted, no matter where he’s asked to play. Last night he had the most touches of any player on the pitch, and was one of our better players as we gradually forced Brentford back and pushed for a winner.
Until Reece James is back, we’re going to be seeing a lot of him, either in the back 3 or at wing back.
