Chelsea’s highest rated player in narrow win over Palace

Thiago Silva has been a rock at the back for Chelsea since arriving at the club, and yesterday was another top performance from him as the Blues squeaked to a 2-1 win.

WhoScored had the defender as Chelsea’s top rated player – although things would have been very different if the defender had been sent off after 33 minutes.

He was booked for handling the ball with Jordan Ayew clear through on goal, and while it was probably far enough out to warrant just a yellow, nobody could have had any complaints had it been a red.

As it was, he stayed on the pitch and played an important role in the equalising goal. That could be a sliding doors moment for the whole season, let alone the game, as Graham Potter picked up a narrow and desperately needed win.

It looks as though Potter intends to play a back four, which could really expose Silva if it’s not carefully balanced.
