Reece James’ injury picked up in Milan in midweek was not initially thought to be too bad. After the game Graham Potter said it would be necessary to wait 24-48 hours for the swelling to go down so that scans could be done properly – but James was joking around on the pitch with his colleagues after the game, and didn’t seem to be concerned that this might be a serious one.
Well, those scans have now been done, and they reveal significant damage to his knee it seems.
Adam Newson of Football.London reports that there will be a decision on surgery within the next 24 hours, with James’ World Cup now at risk.
It’s a shattering blow to Chelsea, who lost Ben Chilwell for a whole year in very similar circumstances a year ago. We will hopefully find out more in Graham Potter’s press conference in an hour.
