Chelsea fans were spoiled when it comes to goalscoring midfielders because of Frank Lampard.
They were taught that you can expect 20 goals a season from your best players, when in reality even 10 is an impressive total.
They’ve had a couple of decent players since then, but none have come close to those numbers. But maybe now they’ve found someone who can develop into something similar.
Cesare Casadei didn’t get a huge amount of attention when he signed over the summer, but according to a man who knows him well, he’s a potential goal machine from the middle of the park.
Daniele Adani knows Casadei well from Inter’s youth team, who play in the Italian “Primavera” youth league. The former player is convinced that he can be a goal machine in the Premier League.
“Casadei is a 15-goal player in the Primavera,” Adani said in quotes picked up by the Evening Standard.
“He has the ability to get in the middle of ten people, but the ball gets to him. In his head, he has a time as if everyone disappeared.
“He is not a technically fine player, but he has that drive that I think in England they thought they could grow.”
He’s certainly got the size and physicality to thrive, and we can’t wait to see him in action. It seems likely he will be given a loan to another side in the top flight to help him adjust, so it could well be a year or more before we get to see him in the first team.
