Thiago Silva has recently turned 38 and shows no sign of slowing down.
A regular star and starter for Chelsea, he’s also still a key man for Brazil, who he will represent in Qatar at the World Cup this winter.
He’s not just still playing at 38 – he’s still among the best central defenders in the Premier League at 38. That surely means he’s got another couple of years left in him at the top level, and in an interview on the Chelsea official website today he announced his intentions to do just that.
“I talk often with Zlatan and recently more often because Chelsea will play against AC Milan in the Champions league,’ he added. ‘My aim is to play until I’m 40 years old but I don’t know if it will be this level or this competition.”
“It depends on this season and we’ll see what will happen in the World Cup. It also depends on a contract extension but yeah, my aim is to play until I’m 40.”
Wesley Fofana was Chelsea big young central defender signing this summer and he will eventually be the one to step up and replace Silva. But in the meantime, the France international can learn so much from the Brazil captain.
We’re sure he will get the extension he hints at – on two years of evidence, you’d be mad not to give it to him.
