Talented youngster “super excited” to finally make Chelsea bow

Chelsea’s splurge on young talents this summer attracted a few interesting names, including Gabriel Slonina, the teenage goalkeeper from Chicago Fire, where he has remained on loan even after the deal was done.

Blues fans are now keeping a close eye on his development, especially with our current options between the sticks struggling.

Slonina’s comments about his move show that he’s just as excited at the prospect of making a move.

“I’m super excited just to be in that environment and see what it’s like in the Premier League […] Just that level of pressure, I can’t wait to be in there and be in that environment because I think you’re going to learn from every single person there,” the stopper said in quotes picked up by the MLS official website.

We’re just as excited to see him play for us as he is to do it himself. But we’re under no illusion – it could be a long time coming. While he’s miles ahead of most 18 year olds, he’s still only 18, and will likely need years of development before he ever gets his Premier League bow.

He will remains Chicago Fire’s first choice goalkeeper until the end of the MLS season in the winter, and then he will likely be shifted to a lower league English club, or a European league somewhere else.

Step by step, he will be built up, and we can’t wait to see what he’s got.
