Retired goal machine tells Rafael Leao to stay at Milan

According to all the rumours, Chelsea made strong attempts to sign Rafael Leao towards the end of the transfer window this summer.

After winning the Serie A title last season and keeping a strong squad, AC Milan were able to hold firm and resist our offers.

Former striker Jean Pierre Papin things the Portugal star made the right call, noting that the forward was thriving in Milan and should think twice about risking a move elsewhere.

“Maldini said that if [Leao] wants to become even stronger he must stay. I agree with Paolo. Leao must look at Chelsea’s squad and ask himself: ‘How much space would I find as a starter?’

“At Milan he is untouchable, he knows how to express himself and he knows his teammates perfectly, staying and growing in the Rossoneri is the best choice,” Papin said in quotes picked up by Football.Italia.

There’s only one thing we disagree with in there – Papin’s questions about Leao’s competition at Chelsea.

We’re not sure how much of us he’s been watching in the last year, but apart from Raheem Sterling there’s nobody really pulling up trees in our attacking positions, and at this point we feel like Leao would already be a guaranteed starter.

But he’s thriving in Milan and they’re competing for another title in Italy, so after just a few games it already looks like a good call.
