OFFICIAL: Thomas Tuchel sacked by Chelsea

Chelsea have just announced on their website that they have sacked Thomas Tuchel after less than two years in charge.

A statement on the club website thanked Tuchel for his work during his time at the club.

The Blues lost last night’s game against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League, to compound a poor start in the Premier League.

It still comes as something of a surprise after the German coach had great success in a short spell at Chelsea. He won the Champions League months after arriving, and last season won the UEFA Super Cup, the Club World Cup, and took the team to two domestic cup finals, losing to Liverpool on penalties in both.

The timing is a disaster in terms of strategy, with this coming just a week after the club backed their coach in the transfer market.

According to the statement, “no further comment” will be made until a new head coach is appointed.
