Kai Havertz into make or break phase with new manager to impress

Kai Havertz is truly fighting for his Chelsea future now.

He looked like a signing that couldn’t fail, but the reality is that he has not lived up to anything close to his billing.

A goal in the Champions League final bought him a whole extra season of patience, and this season the departure of Romelu Lukaku has meant even more free hits for him.

But it won’t last forever, and the arrival of a new manager will mean the pressure is really on now.

Raheem Sterling seems undroppable, and if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang finds his sharpness we could see Havertz dropping to the bench very quickly.

On the other hand, perhaps Graham Potter is the man to get the best out of the floating German attacker? If he can’t do it, we will start to think that nobody can.

He’s with the German national team now – but when he’s back he will know he has to impress, and fast.
