Graham Potter’s Kepa decision is sign of things to come

Graham Potter has picked his first Chelsea lineup, and perhaps the most notable selection of all was his decision to play Kepa in goal.

There’s the chance that he’s keeping a promise that had previously been made to the Spanish goalkeeper to give him some starts this season, but that seems unlikely. Why would Potter feel responsible for Thomas Tuchel’s vows?

Instead, it seems like Potter has decided Kepa is his go to man in goal. It ends a quite astonishing decline for Edouard Mendy, who a year ago was considered without a doubt one of the world’s best.

It still feels likely he wins his place back, but it shows that the door is open for Kepa to establish himself as number one once again. That can only be a bad thing for Chelsea, who are regressing to the question marks in goal they thought they’d moved on from.
