Graham Potter to face first Champions League game under sudden pressure

The news has broken this morning that this weekend’s Premier League fixtures have been cancelled due to the death of the Queen, creating an interesting situation for Chelsea.

The Blues were due to play Fulham in the early kick off tomorrow, with Graham Potter waiting to take charge of his first game as manager after succeeding Thomas Tuchel earlier this week.

Instead of a sleepy Saturday game against our London rivals, Potter’s first game will now be an away game against Salzburg in the Champions League in midweek.

Potter’s last European games were as Ostersund coach in the Europa League several years ago, and this will be an entirely new situation for him.

Not only that, but defeat against Dinamo Zagreb in Tuchel’s last game has already put Chelsea a step behind in the race to qualify from the group, meaning the match against Salzburg is suddenly a very important one.
