Graham Potter “proud” of Chelsea players in Salzburg draw

Graham Potter’s first game as manager ended as a 1-1 draw against Red Bull Salzburg.

The new Chelsea manager saw his team take the lead early in the second half, only to be pegged back against the run of player later on.

A siege in the final moments wasn’t enough to win the game, which saw several good chances wasted by the home team.

After the game, Potter was largely positive about what he’d seen saying he was proud of how [his players] acted… from an effort perspective it was 1oo” there.

What’s going unsaid was what was missing – some good finishing and some better defending.

But he was always going to be positive after his first game. We could easily have won it, that’s beyond doubt, but it wasn’t scintillating.

There is now an unusually long time for us to stew over this result. We can take positives, but our problems remain our problems, and the question of what to do at the back looms too.
