Fabrizio Romano: There are ‘three candidates’ on Chelsea’s DOF shortlist

Fabrizio Romano reports that there are three names on Chelsea’s list as they search for a new Director of Football as soon as possible.

Now the new manager is in place, the club want to bring him a new Director of Football to take that side of things on. Graham Potter has arrived with his own set of staff, but the next point of call will be a DOF.

Sources: The reason why Chelsea sacked Thomas Tuchel!

Romano has the latest on his Substack newsletter this morning, and he says there are three names on the list.

Chelsea have been previously linked with names such as Michael Edwards who used to be at Liverpool, and Paul Mitchell as well. Romano though, says the three names are being kept a secret by the club, so it is unconfirmed whether any of those two names are still on the shortlist.

Romano does speculate on a couple names though. He says: “All the names are still secret, there are three candidates in the list, but Todd Boehly wants to decide before the January transfer window. I think Chelsea absolutely needs to appoint a director ready to work together with Graham Potter on every single point of the squad.

“Former Liverpool man Michael Edwards would be a great call but it’s not easy to convince him. He was approached by Chelsea before but wants a break. Maxwell was another name on the club’s list, but my understanding was that this was never advanced.”
