Denis Zakaria arrived at Chelsea with hours to go on deadline day and has yet to play a single minute. He already feels like a bit of a forgotten man, but there’s plenty of time left for him to make an impact.
The squad are largely back in their home countries on international duty, and that means, as always some choice quotes from across Europe.
We’ve not heard Zakaria speak, so it’s interesting to hear his take on how the transfer happened.
He points out how rapid it all was – he didn’t know Chelsea were even interested until 6 hours before the move was done.
Denis Zakaria on joining #Chelsea:
“It all happened very quickly. I didn’t know a move to Chelsea was possible until six hours before the end of the transfer window. I packed my things and waited for the contract to be signed. It was very close.”

He also rather tragically notes how important the influence of Thomas Tuchel was on him making the move.
Denis Zakaria on Thomas Tuchel:
“One more proof that everything can go very quickly in football. I wanted to work with Thomas Tuchel. His presence is one of the reasons why I accepted this loan at #Chelsea."

Given our need of a player of his profile, we’re confident he will get chances this season, and if he takes them, he could well end up sticking around.
