Damning Chelsea xG stat shows attacking nightmare

What a disaster.

Chelsea have been beaten by Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League, and despite going behind early on, the Blues couldn’t get into gear and threaten their opposition significantly.

Just look at the crazy xG numbers from the game. Chelsea took 15 shots and generated less than one expected goal from that. That’s jaw dropping in reality, showing that the efforts we had were desperate rather than well crafted close range finishes.

That is a dire number in a normal game, but in this game in particular it’s astonishing.

For pretty much the whole second half, Chelsea had Kai Havertz and Armando Broja up top, Raheem Sterling and Hakim Ziyech out wide, Mason Mount and others pushing up to support.

They played with 6 attackers plus flying full backs for the best part of 90 minutes, and ended up with 0.06 xG per shot.

It’s hard to know where to start with that.
