Chelsea win behind-closed-doors friendly 2-1 after double from summer signing

Chelsea have an exceptionally long break without a  game at the moment, with their match against Crystal Palace not coming until the 1st of October.

So perhaps it’s no surprise the club agreed to play a friendly game to get some minutes into the legs of some squad players ahead of the international break.

It was played against new manager Graham Potter’s old team Brighton, and Chelsea have come away 2-1 winners, according to Nizaar Kinsella’s match report from the Amex Stadium.

Both teams used a mix of first team players and youth team players.

Plenty of players were rested, but those who didn’t get a full match in midweek were used. That included Christian Pulisic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Trevoh Chalobah, Armando Broja, Denis Zakaria and Conor Gallagher.

Carney Chukwuemeka, the summer signing from Aston Villa, was the star of the show however, scoring both goals for Chelsea. That could be the moment that earns him his big break under Graham Potter.
