Chelsea to raid Red Bull for more backroom upgrades

All the talk this weekend has been about Chelsea’s pursuit of Christoph Freund, the RB Salzburg sporting director.

Despite open resistance from the Austrian club, it feels like Todd Boehly will get his man. The new Chelsea owner has spoken publicly about his desire to implement a Red Bull style operation, and clearly his first aim to recruit some of the biggest brains from that operation.

With Freund potentially joining on the football side, it seems there will also be additions on the business and marketing side too.

David Ornstein’s piece in The Athletic today claims that Chelsea are also investigating hiring Oliver Mintzlaff, currently the RB Leipzig chief executive, for a similar role in West London.

There was contact over the summer, as Mintzlaff did business with Boehly over the sale of Timo Werner, and that looks to have laid groundwork for a future appointment further down the line.
