Chelsea missed a trick with new England callup

Ivan Toney got a lot of transfer interest this summer but ended up staying put at Brentford. After a strong start to the season, he’s just been given his first England callup.

In his column in the Sun today, Troy Deeney has claimed that Chelsea – and Man U and Arsenal before them – missed a trick by not signing the forward this summer.

Instead the Blues went for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has started slowly and famously left Arsenal under a cloud not long ago.

We really agree with this take. Toney would have cost a lot more, but Chelsea have proved time and again over the years that try to save pennies often costs you pounds in football.

Signing a 33 year old Aubameyang is just guaranteeing we will have to spend more big money further down the line, and by then Toney might have twenty England caps and a much bigger price tag.
