Chelsea goalkeeper spot remains up for grabs as Mendy knee injury continues to bother him

Edouard Mendy will miss Senegal’s friendly match against Iran this week as the knee injury that kept him out of last week’s Chelsea game against RB Salzburg continues to bother him.

The Tehran Times report that the Blue will not be playing the friendly in Vienna on Friday, and say that he was “forced to leave the team due to injury.”

It’s not clear if that means he’s left the camp entirely and gone back to Cobham for treatment, or whether he’s just headed to the site of Senegal’s next game.

Clearly the issue is not too severe, or he wouldn’t have been called up at all, but he’s already missed one game for club and country each now.

It gives Kepa, who played against Salzburg, another chance to impress new coach Graham Potter in training. Whatever Potter thinks of the Spaniard, he may have to use him regardless if Mendy is still out come the 1st of October.
