Matt Law is as well connected as anyone when it comes to Chelsea, and he’s today written that the Blues are close to appointing a new sporting director.
The rumours about RB Salzburg’s Cristoph Freund have been intensifying for a week or so, and the fact that Chelsea played the Austrian team in the Champions League on Wednesday night can only have helped grease the wheels.
Christoph Freund now expected to become Chelsea’s new sporting director following another round of positive talks. It is thought his appointment will be made relatively soon. #cfc

Law saw the appointment will be made soon after “another round of positive talks,” and we would it would just be a matter of days now.
Paying for a sporting director should be significantly cheaper than buying a player or even buying half of Brighton’s coaching staff, so there’s no reason this should be held up too much.
Of course there’s a long time to go until the January window, so the rush isn’t enormous, but the sooner he can get to work the better.
