Chalobah tried in new role as Potter gets to know his squad

With most of the first team squad away on international duty, Chelsea played a friendly last weekend which saw the Blues take on Portsmouth.

There were various false rumours about the scoreline, invented to discredit Graham Potter or to conjure a crisis at the club, but even if we had lost, not too much could be taken from the result given the jumbled team we played of senior and youth players.

One interesting aspect that does seem to be true is that Potter used Trevoh Chalobah in midfield.

He’s played there before on his loans, but not for Chelsea, bar a few minutes late in games last season.

Chalobah has not played a single minute for the first team this season, and is already being linked with a January move.

It could be that the new manager is trying to figure out a better way to get him in the team – but given N’Golo Kante is set to return from injury and we’ve signed Denis Zakaria, chances will be limited in the middle too.
