Benfica sporting director 100% focused on current role

One of the newer names being mentioned in connection with the Chelsea sporting director job is Rui Pedro Braz, currently in a similar position at Benfica.

The Portuguese club have an incredible record of finding and developing players, but that started long before Braz’ arrival and will surely continue after he’s gone.

Portugal’s big sport newspaper Record has claimed that he’s still “100%” focused on Benfica, but that’s the line you’d expect regardless of his real intentions.

Earlier reports were that the new Chelsea owners are going to try and conduct interviews for the role next week.

Benfica have a new president in the form of Rui Costa, and are having a brilliant campaign under the control of new coach Roger Schmidt.

Chelsea would be a tempting opportunity for anyone, but much as some of our previous targets have done, it’s easy to see Braz turning us down to stay where he’s already succeeding.
