Bayern Leverkusen sporting director next in line for Chelsea as Blues step up search

Chelsea have been rebuffed in their attempts to sign a sporting director, with RB Salzburg’s Christoph Freund now apparently staying put in Austria.

Todd Boehly and his fellow owners haven’t waited long to find a new target however, and just hours after a Tweet from Salzburg making it clear that Freund is staying, Jacob Steinberg is reporting on the Blues’ next target.

The Guardian writer claims that Tim Steidten, currently employed at Bayer Leverkusen.

Freund was apparently contacted initially after coming onto Boehly and co.’s radar during the negotiations over Benjamin Sesko this summer.

Perhaps Steidten got talking to the Chelsea board during talks about Callum Hudson-Odoi, who is on loan at Leverkusen this season.

Either way, these new guys clearly have a Teutonic leaning when it comes to these matters. Let’s hope that this target proves easier to persuade to move that Freund and Michael Edwards, who have both so far turned us down.
