Why 18 year old talent could be Chelsea’s most exciting signing of all

The signing of Carney Chukwuemeka would have generated a lot more excitement in a normal summer, but given how busy Chelsea have had to be it’s rather been pushed into the background.

That’s crazy, considering we’ve paid £20m for a teenager with one year left on his contract.

One person who does appreciate how important it could be is Joe Cole, who works with the club at academy level, and knows all about the 18 year old’s talent.

As Cole pointed out in an interview with the Evening Standard, Chelsea’s policy of signing the best European talents will have to change post-Brexit, and getting the best domestic players at a young age is more important than ever:

“Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa is one of the most talented players in England. That signing is even more important when you realise that signing young players from Europe has changed since Brexit,” the former winger explained.

Chukwuemeka has been made promises about his game time, and while it feels a little intense to throw him in at the deep end against Tottenham this weekend, it won’t be long before we see him in action getting fans off their seats.
