Chelsea look to be closing in on a pretty unexpected move to sign Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona, as the Catalan club try all the dirty tricks in the book to get rid of him.
It’s a great opportunistic pickup for the Blues – but it will come at a cost beyond the money spent on the midfielder.
Conor Gallagher has a lot to think about with the World Cup coming up this winter, after a superb campaign with Crystal Palace last time out. He’s obviously been promised a lot of action with Chelsea, but he’s behind three world class players in Jorginho, N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic in the pecking order.
Add de Jong to that, and it’s hard to see Gallagher getting a chance.
According to the Daily Mail, Crystal Palace are keen to get him back, and will pounce if the Blues let him go. West Ham have also been linked, and it’s hard to imagine the club convincing him to stay once that interest is concrete.
Not a great opinion piece when you look at each player more closely. Gallagher is obviously being brought into to the team with a view in the short term to compete with Kovacic and Kante for one of Tuchel’s double six positions but Jorginho controls the tempo of a game with his passing and de Jong would compete with him for the other double six in the short term……next season will see the midfield change again with one or two of the older guys going……harder to see where Chukwuemeka fits though.

Jorginho should be get rid of. He likes to play the ball safe all the time instead of picking a player making a run in behing.. Chelsea should get Tielemans, Neves or Rodrigo Hernandez.
Jorginho needs to go, because Callager is a promising great player. Chelsea coach should believe in Callager this time around.

Gallagher is our player. He’s a prospect and we need to keep hold of him. If Frankie is coming, them rotation would work well.

He also frees up room for an attcking midfielder like Gallagher, as De Jong can defend, unlike Jorgi.
From next season, Kante will be on his last legs, so De Jong/ Carney/Gallagher/Mount should be the automatic top four
I do agree on your analysis Paul but I do wish for Chelsea to go and get a player such as Skriniar or Upamecano who would cost less than buying Fofana who is also an injury prone player and has confidence issues. Memphis Depay or Saint Maximin should be the other top priority before the close of the transfer window to Charge the team to silverware’s this season. Frankie De jong / Matheus Nunez, Skriniar / Upamecano and Memphis Depay / Saint Maximin are my considered players Chelsea need for this Seasons Success Story.

Gallagher should look beyond England, compatriots like Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori who were also Chelsea graduates are making it in Italy. IMO, I say he go to Milan, who wants a player of his kind after the departure of Franck Kessie, where he’ll be loved and appreciated. He and Tonali would be a good duo tho

Get ride of jorginho… Keep the young talent to pair with mount, covacic, and de jong.. kante is almost on his last leg
