OFFICIAL: Cesare Casadei signs for Chelsea

Chelsea have finally made official the signing of Cesare Casadei from Inter Milan.

The midfielder has been shining in the Italian side’s Primavera teams, and played a starring role for Italy at the U19 Euros this summer. There he featured in the team of the tournament alongside Chelsea academy product Harvey Vale, and fellow summer signing Carney Chukwuemeka.

The arrival of those two, along with several other teenagers this summer, seems to be part of a strong drive to recruit the most talented youth from across the continent, and academy director Neil’ Bath’s involvement in this deal shows just that.

His comments on Casadei show us a little about what the club’s plans are for him this year and beyond:

“Cesare is a player we have tracked for some time and we are delighted that he has now agreed to join Chelsea, where he will initially strengthen our Under-21s squad. He is another exciting emerging talent who we are looking forward to seeing develop and progress further as he breaks into senior football in the coming years.”

We’re usually keen to get players into first team action as soon as possible on loan, but given Casadei hasn’t played senior football at all, and is only just making his move to the UK, a year adjusting in the youth teams seems very sensible.
