Ben Chilwell started the first Chelsea game of the season, something which surprised a lot of people considering he is still recovering from a really serious injury picked up last November.
New signing Marc Cucurella replaced him later in that game, and the Spaniard started the Tottenham game last week, with Chilwell on the bench.
With Chilwell now well rested and working his way ever closer to match fitness, this week’s team news against Leeds was always going to be interesting.
Tuchel has gone with Cucurella, and while that may still be because Chilwell isn’t 100%, there’s also the sense that this will become increasingly about form as well as fitness.
The former Brighton man looked really good both in his cameo on the opening day and last weekend. If he does well again today, there’s no question that Chilwell has a battle on his hands to earn his place back.
