We were already excited by the prospect of youngster Omari Hutchinson joining Chelsea from Arsenal, so imagine how thrilled we were when it was announced totally out of the blue yesterday that Carney Chukwuemeka was coming to the club from Aston Villa.
He’s perhaps the brightest under 19 talent in English football now – so how did Chelsea sign him without a single leak to any agent or insider?
Barcelona were leading the race for Carney Chukwuemeka, but #Chelsea, in a top secret way, completed the signing. AC Milan also submitted a proposal a few weeks ago but never reached an agreement with Aston Villa.

According to Fabrizio Romano on Youtube, Barcelona and AC Milan were circling, but Chelsea’s “top secret” method allowed them to seal a deal for the Villa kid before anyone else could react.
Thomas Tuchel’s talks with the kid obviously convinced him he’d get good minutes at Chelsea, and from there the club just had to make his club an offer they couldn’t refuse – a reported £20m fee for a teenager with one year left on his deal turned out to be just that.
