There was a lot of drama over the weekend surrounding Chelsea’s alleged interest in signing Manchester United defender Harry Maguire.
One report game out and Chelsea fans went wild off the back of just one rumour, most of them angry with the links of signing Maguire.
A couple of other reports have since came out as well suggesting Chelsea might be keen on Maguire. However, one thing that has been clear from any Maguire report is that they all say that Wesley Fofana is still the priority over any other new centre back, and Fabrizio Romano has reiterated that this morning on his Substack.
Romano has been asking Chelsea over the weekend about the Maguire links and any new centre backs, and he says:
“I’ve been asked a lot about Harry Maguire and those links with Chelsea. My understanding is that, at the moment, Chelsea’s priority is Wesley Fofana. This is the only answer I’m getting from Chelsea during the weekend too, when asking about a new centre-back.”
So I think it’s pretty safe to assume that there isn’t really much in this. Perhaps Maguire was just one of many, many names mentioned at Chelsea this summer when deciding which targets to pursue, which is very natural in a transfer window.
